BIRDS OF THE WENATCHEE RIVER WATERSHED

The Wenatchee River Watershed includes a wide variety of habitats, each hosting different species of birds. Look for Clark's nutcrackers and mountain chickadees in high alpine forests, white-headed woodpeckers and chipping sparrows in the ponderosa pines, and western meadowlarks in the eastern sagebrush-covered hills. You will find different species of birds in each season of the year. Why aren't the birds in alphabetical order? Lists of birds are usually in phylogenetic order. The most primitive species, such as loons, are listed first. More advanced species, like songbirds, are at the end of the list. Most bird field guides are set up this way.
