Chester Marler Reads from East of the Divide

Chester Marler, leader of Saturday’s Cool Birds hike, reads
from his new book East of the Divide: Travels through the Eastern Slope
of the North Cascades 1870-1999. This book tells a fascinating story
of the Cascade Mountains we love so much. Historical diaries and contemporary
natural history are synthesized in describing this rugged landscape – as
it was decades ago – and as it is today. Search for a Northern Pacific
Railroad route in 1870, ski across the Pasayten wilderness with Hal Sylvester
in 1908, and wander through the seldom visited Enchantment Lakes in the 1950’s.
Chester Marler provides these stories and many more and adds to this history
a modern day’s naturalist’s observations.
